Sundays are pretty relaxed for me here. We got up and went to church like always, and I especially loved the Sunday school message this week. We talked about how truth is absolute and discussed what our reaction to Christ and the world should be. It was a great conversation, and it really resonated with many of the discussions I had last semester at LASP and with what I’m reading right now in C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity. I love that we can turn to the Bible and have an authoritative, infallible source of truth, and the challenge to live a radically different life from the one the world tries to pull me towards is always inspiring to me.
Our group of study abroad students again overwhelmed the Sunday school attendance, which is rather unfortunate, but I really enjoy getting to know the other students and the few Spanish youth who do come each week. Instead of having a regular service, a visiting missions group gave a really good concert during church. They were very talented, and I enjoyed their music, but I was really tired and therefore ended up being very distracted. The visiting group was from Brazil and sang in Portuguese, which didn’t help me stay focused, and I left thinking that I wasn’t sure that I liked trading in my service for the concert. It was enjoyable, but I would have preferred having it as an optional separate event.
At any rate, we stopped at McDonald’s for a café con helado (a shot of espresso with ice cream…so delicious) in attempt to wake ourselves up for our afternoon of homework and got back to our apartment around 3:00. We heated up the lunch Rosa left us and enjoyed the amazing dessert she made for us. It’s layers of chocolate pudding, cookies, and flan, and we both absolutely love it. It’s nice to have a host who cares about leaving us little treats to brighten our days. J After lunch, I started in on my composition for grammar class and then worked on uploading my pictures from yesterday. I was so excited to finally have a working camera that I took more than 100 pictures in Cadíz, and Corinne and I had fun looking through both of our sets of pictures today.
I headed to the park later in the afternoon for some Skype sessions and then came back in hopes of getting to bed early. Unfortunately, little things that I needed to do kept popping up and it ended up being an average night, but that’s alright. It was a pretty productive day and we only have three days of class this week, so I’m sure I’ll be able to make it through.
