It’s Friday! Wahoo! Today was kind of a fun day…classes were normal, and after lunch Corinne and I went on an adventure to find a new place in Sevilla to study. Lots of places were closed for siesta time, and we were looking for a place with WiFi, so we ended up at a Café de Indias, the Spanish equivalent of a Starbucks. It wasn’t quite what we were looking for, but it served its purpose until the sugar and caffeine from our snack made me so jittery I needed to get up and go do something.
I’ve been wanting to take a couple of hours and go inside the cathedral here in Sevilla, which is apparently one of the biggest in the world, so I decided to take my jittery self there, thinking that the walk would help me get all of my energy out and that it would be a good chance to get some pictures and see something new (well, sort of new…I’m pretty sure we toured the cathedral when I was here in HS, but it would have been a first for this trip). Unfortunately, and also not very surprisingly, I got lost on my way to the cathedral and ended up wandering around Sevilla for about an hour. I stopped for directions three times and looked at a public map, but for some reason I just couldn’t keep the route straight.
At any rate, I finally arrived at the cathedral only to find out that it closed to tourists early today and wasn’t open anyway. So I decided to try the Alcazar, another spot I’ve been meaning to hit, but it was also closed. I ended up catching the metro and spending my last hour of daylight in the park reading and people watching. It was a good close to the week, and for some reason today was a really thought provoking day. We talked about the justification of war and the process of electing leadership in my history class, and I’ve been reflecting more on the unemployment here, and between these and other topics I feel like I’ve had my head in the clouds all day just processing things…one of my favorite pastimes J
I ended up researching the cathedral hours and now have plans to return tomorrow, hopefully with better luck, and Corinne and I ended our evening watching an episode from lovely TV series set in Victorian England. In the end, it was a good close to an interesting week, and looking ahead it’s going to be a busy day tomorrow!
