I’m not sure what’s special about today, but I’m praising God because it’s beautiful. Somehow in the middle of tests, presentations, scheduling, meetings, and settling into a routine, God just reminds me that He is in the center of this. It is because of His plan that I am here and it’s for His purposes that everything happens. What a comfort to know that He is in control and that He’s looking out for me. While I’m still learning about life in Spain and how to get used to everything here, He makes Himself known and gives me the peace and assurance that are vital in a life lived for Him. I want with all my being to live this life for Him, and I’m so grateful that His plans have brought me to this very place.
My presentation this morning went really well, and my reviewing for tests is coming along quite nicely, so I’m feeling really good about this week. It’s incredible to me that I’m able to say that at this point because on Monday I was totally freaked out about how I was ever going to get everything done. Now, at the end of the week, I realize that what looked like mountains were really only little hills that God guided me over.
I got a text message from my intercambio today asking me if I could Skype later this evening, so that was exciting! I took my computer to the school where there is more reliable internet to talk to her from there. We ended up just instant messaging, but we set up a coffee date for next week, and it was nice getting to talk to her a little bit. Her name is Raquel and she just graduated from college with a degree in video production…she seems super nice and easy to get along with!
Shortly after talking with Raquel, I met with my prayer group for the first time. It’s a great small group…there are four of us, although only three were able to make it today, and I’m really excited to share and grow with them this semester!
I had quite a busy evening, and after prayer group I had a meeting for my service learning class. I’m going to be helping teach some high school students English, which I’m really excited about. Typically I prefer to work with kids who are a bit younger, but I decided that it would be a good idea to get some experience with high school kids since the ESL license I’m pursuing is good for K-12. Everyone who is volunteering with Jóven en Acción (youth in action), the program connecting us with the students, met at the school to meet the director of the program and learn more about what is expected of us. We also talked about what days we will be working there and how to get there. The director of the program is really cool and he told us it will pretty much be up to us to decide what the program looks like. We will be there to offer homework help and do other activities to form relationships with the students who come. I’m looking forward to starting next week!
The rest of my night was filled with studying and some good conversations. Over dinner, Corinne, Rosa and I joked about the incredibly active nightlife here in Sevilla. We were all laughing at the possible trouble Corinne and I could get into but of course never would. It was fun to bond with Rosa in that way and it definitely lightened the stress level for Corinne and I who were preparing for a long night of preparing for our tests. I’m still not finished with that yet, so I’ve gotta get going, but I’ll keep you posted…hopefully the tests will go well, and then I’ll be free for the weekend!!
