Saturday, September 24

Sweet Saturday. Today I just had fun all day. I was planning on getting some homework done, but it didn’t work out. Oh well…it was a blast. This morning Corinne and I slept in and then we met our friend Danielle and headed to the Festival of Nations, which is currently being held in the center of Sevilla. It wasn’t as big as I was expecting, but we had lots of fun shopping through the little stands from all over the world, and we all picked up some gifts to take home. I also finally found a scarf I liked enough to buy, but it smelled like it had been in a box/at fairs for an eternity, so it’s been hanging outside for a while…hopefully I’ll be able to wear it this week. There was tons of food at the festival that smelled wonderful, but we passed it up to have lunch with Rosa, which was a good idea…she’s the most fun person to eat lunch with…I love listening to her talk all about her life and family.
After lunch I headed to the park to Skype with some people at home, which was just wonderful, and then after dinner we headed back to the Festival of Nations to watch a tango show. It wasn’t quite as impressive as we were hoping…we think they were like an amateur tango group or something. The most fun part for me was when they called all the kids in the crowd on stage and taught them a few dances…it was SO cute! While we were there we wandered around and checked out all the food stands just to see what each country offered. I didn’t recognize any of the food from the stand representing the US…they were making fried egg sandwiches with french fries on them.
The whole time we were wandering around I kept finding things that I really wanted (at lots of stands I saw rice and beans and missed my diet from last semester immensely), but I successfully resisted until the end when I finally asked Corinne to split a chocolate crepe with me. They were selling all kinds of crepes at the French stand, and they smelt absolutely amazing, so we caved. It was so worth it. YUM!! We talked about wanting a picture of it the whole time we were in line, and then once we got it we were so excited to eat it that we didn’t even think of the camera again until we were already on our way home. Oh well, I’ll just have to remember it by this description ;)
We had talked to Rosa about the incredibly active nightlife here in Sevilla, and she gave us the names of some streets to be sure to walk down on our way back from the tango show. We walked down them just to see what was going on and then headed back to the apartment where we watched funny youtube videos and made fun of Katy Perry songs for a while. It was definitely a highlight of my week. Rosa was shocked to see us back so early, but when she saw me dancing to Katy Perry she came and did a silly dance with me.
By the time we went to bed I was thoroughly exhausted. I’m so grateful for the chance to have a few days like this, and it’s encouraging to me after a sort of crazy week to be able to relax a little bit. Tomorrow looks like church and homework…a pretty typical Sunday for most students in my program, I believe.
